Paul had always been a big fan of Beethoven. At the risk of being accused of copying the 70’s trend towards the likes of ‘Switched on Bach’, Paul used selected samples from Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and the famous ‘Moonlight Sonata’ and combined them with his own music. The two pieces were in different keys and different tempos, but Paul re-sampled, slowed down or speeded up so it all matched. Blended with the haunting voice of Huriana and his own rap-style vocals, the end result is a masterpiece which even Ludwig himself would surely be proud of.
‘You Were Here’ is a heart-rending song about loss, grief and hope, recorded live at a concert in Christchurch as was ‘Sydney’ a beautiful little song about Paul’s original home town.
Then there’s ‘Wrong Into Right’ a one-take live-in-the-studio recording as is ‘Knowing You’, a cute love song about the woman in Paul’s life.
